Please note: This page details unique enrollment situations for families looking to use WVS courses. If you are not partnering with your local school district, directly enrolling with WVS will require a fee paid by the family. WVS does NOT award grade/credit or provide a transcript.
Wisconsin Virtual School (WVS) strives to provide the highest quality educational opportunities to partnering school districts and to private-pay homeschool families. If interested in enrolling, please discuss your options with your resident school district first to see if they already partner with WVS. Some unique situations are detailed below.
WVS as a Homeschooling Option
The state of Wisconsin, Department of Public Instruction defines “Homeschooling” as a “Home-Based Private Education Program”, or PI-1206, as a “program of educational instruction provided to a child by the child’s parent or guardian or by a person designed by the parent or guardian.” To take advantage of this option, students are required to complete the PI-1206 Homeschool Enrollment Report (HOMER). Students do not “open enroll” to another WI-School District for in-person nor virtual instruction. PI-1206 allows students to enroll part-time in “up to two courses” per semester through their resident school district (18).
Other Circumstances
Part-time Attendance Option for Private School Students legislation allows private school students to enroll in "up to two courses" in their resident school, speak to your resident school district to see if they partner with WVS and if your student is able to enroll in courses through WVS.
If you have a learner who lives out of state for part of the year but has residency in Wisconsin, please check with your resident school district first to see if they have a partnership with WVS. In other out of state instances, contact the WVS office for more information.
If your local district does not partner with WVS and you want your child to take one of our online classes, you have the option to pay independently and enroll them directly. Please note that WVS does not award grade/credit or provide a transcript. See below for next steps.
If your circumstance is not listed above, please reach out to the WVS Help Desk for additional assistance.
Next Steps for Direct Enroll (if not partnering with your local district)
Parents/guardians should only use the forms below for unique situations where they are enrolling learners directly and not through the local school district. Parents and guardians understand they are responsible for payment for these enrollments and WVS does not award grade/credit or provide a transcript.
Parents/Guardians - You should check the course syllabus (click the course name in our course list) to see if there are any required materials for the course you are choosing. Also, as part of completion of the form(s) below, you will be asked to verify that you have reviewed the WVS Drop Policy and the WVS Extension Policy.
**We accept enrollments from August 14th-June 30th of each school year. Our enrollment window is closed from July 1st-August 18th for course updates and planning for the next school year.**
