Teacher Bio:

Hello! My name is Shannon Charbarneau and I am an English teacher at WVS. I earned my English teaching degree from Edgewood College, and Master’s degree in Educational Leadership from Marian College. 

Although I have been teaching since 1995, my educational journey has led me in a few directions. I started my career at Wausau West teaching English before moving into the EL (English Learners) department where I’ve been ever since. Currently, I focus on welcoming newcomers to the Wausau School District, which has been a rewarding experience. I take every opportunity to learn about the students’ cultural backgrounds and help them acclimate to life here in Wausau. 

I also teach English for Wisconsin Virtual School (WVS) and Wausau Area Virtual School (WAVE). I have a friend who tells me teaching English is my first “love”; she’s not wrong. Teaching for WVS has brought me back to teaching English and introduced me to online education. I’m proud to be part of an innovative, forward-thinking program that provides educational opportunities and alternatives for students and families. 

My epic adventure in teaching has been shaped by my family. I have 10 brothers and sisters who certainly provide for good character models to write about. They have helped me raise my two children (19 years apart), provided support throughout my career, and are my best friends. I humor my son with pets, and now my urban petting zoo consists of too many fish, two cats, a dog, and chickens. You can often find me in the kitchen. My daughter, sisters, and I enjoy gardening and make a ton of salsa and marinara in the fall.
