Virtual School provides:

options for credit deficient students or students
unable to successfully participate in a traditional
setting.
- Relevant
courses in flexible locations in an asynchronous
environment.
- Courses
aligned to state academic standards, taught by certified
teachers.

year courses.
- Flexible
modified rates for learning and course completion—traditional,
accelerated, and extended.

Student support
and monitoring.
WVS
contracts with Wisconsin certified teachers to teach
online courses in the following areas: English, math,
science, social studies, foreign languages, technology,
health, careers, economics, business and study skills.
Teacher Qualifications: Must be able
to:
- Show
proof of a current Wisconsin teaching certificate
- Demonstrate
content knowledge or expertise in courses
being taught
- Use
effective communication skills and strategies

Analyze
student work and provide support for deeper
understanding
- Use
effective facilitation skills
- Be
self-motivated, organized and flexible
- Be
knowledgeable of or willing to learn online
pedagogy
- Communicate
effectively with a computer, sending and receiving
e-mail, using browser software and the Internet
- Work
non-traditional hours in the new and exciting
field of online learning

Teacher Qualifications: Responsibilities:

Communications-
- Send
welcome letter of introduction to each new
student outlining course expectations, office
hours, and contact information.

Respond to student, parent and school
inquiries within 24-48 hours
- Monitor
and facilitate threaded discussions
Online
Teaching-
- Grade
student work and provide feedback
- Analyze
student work for instructional implications

Provide
support for deeper understanding
- Facilitate
discussion groups or study groups as needed
- Maintain
academic honesty
- Monitor
student progress
- Contact
parent and/or Local Education Guide if student
is not maintaining progress
- Submit
final grades
Training
and Support-
- Participate
in training in course content, course tools,
communication components and online teaching
skills

Participate
in virtual faculty meetings
- Develop
online teaching skills
- Participate
in learning community with other virtual teachers
Evaluation-
- Submit
required student progress reports
- Participate
in ongoing evaluation of courses and delivery

Submit
required project evaluation data
