Virtual
School’s
Middle School Courses provide three paces in which a
student may complete the courses. The students are
recommended to work with their parent, school, guidance
counselor, or local education guide (LEG) to determine
the pace that fits their need. To help
determine the pace choice for the course, consider your
academic needs and how much time you can devote to the
online course. More details
on pacing
Science 6
The
purpose of this course is to provide opportunities to
study concepts of the life, earth/space, and physical
sciences and their applications to everyday life.
Students are engaged in the activities of the course
through the course motif – Extreme Team Sports.
Students act as part of a research team visiting places
around the world to look at the "science" and research
that goes into choosing a site for the next X-Game
event. Environmental factors that could influence where
the next X Games should be held are taken into account
as part of the student research. Students will sky dive
into the Grand Canyon, trek through a rainforest, take a
rocket ride, and visit a skate park to see which would
be the best place for the next X Games site.

Attention all students:
Adventures await you on CORAL, Colony of Research and
Learning. As a member of an elite group of aquanauts in
an underwater research facility, you will live and
conduct research in and around the coral reefs of
Virtual Key. Your tasks include investigating the
problems causing the decline of tourism on Virtual Key
and proposing a solution to the problems. Skills
developed and concepts learned in life, earth and space,
and physical sciences will be used in completing your
tasks. It is the expectation of the government of
Virtual Key that you and the other aquanauts will gather
data, analyze the data, and propose a workable solution
to the identified problems of Virtual Key and the
surrounding areas.

Course Description
Attention: Missions
Specialists Wanted! Welcome to Space Station 8!
The purpose
of this course is to provide opportunities to study
concepts of the life, earth/space, and physical
sciences, and their applications to everyday life.
Using the International Space Station as the focal point
for all course content, students act as Mission
Specialists in Training. As they make their way through
the 8 modules of the course they are introduced to
concepts in life, earth/space, and physical sciences.
Topics such as the history of space exploration, light,
remote sensing, plate tectonics, how gravity affects the
human body, research being done in space, the periodic
table of elements, and a bit of chemistry are but a few
of the topics to be covered in this course.
Note:
This is the third
course in a three-year course sequence that also
includes Comprehensive Science 1 and Comprehensive
Science 2. The goal of the Comprehensive Science course
series is to give exposure to a variety of science
disciplines through participation in exploratory
experiences and activities.
