Wisconsin Virtual School’s Middle School Courses provide three paces in which a student may complete the courses. The students are recommended to work with their parent, school, guidance counselor, or local education guide (LEG) to determine the pace that fits their need. World Cultures - Middle School

Course Description:

Sign up now to participate in an amazing game show! Students will transform into great adventurers and will experience many ancient civilizations. Students will become engaged in social studies like never before. Students will become immersed in exciting adventures and will actively experience ancient history. The purpose of this course is to show students the many cultural groups that have influenced and contributed to the modern world. The content includes the study of the following ancient civilizations and topics: Mesopotamia, Egypt, China, Greece, Rome, Aztecs, Incas, Mayas, the Middle Ages, the Renaissance and modern contributions.

World Geography-Middle School


Course Description:

Attention Special Agents! Help decide where to build an international theme park devoted to cultural understanding.

Typically a seventh grade course, World Geography uses discovery-based learning activities to help students explore various cultural and natural landscapes of the world in order to develop a multicultural understanding of humans. Students will be encouraged to use geographic concepts and skills to actively seek information that can be applied to real-life decisions. As special agents on a simulated journey of discovery, students will need to think critically as they collect and analyze social, political and economic facts about how humans interact with each other and their physical world.

Course Goal Students will develop a multicultural understanding of humans and how they interact with their environment while using geography concepts and skills to actively seek information and apply decision-making processes to real-life situations.

U.S. History- Middle School


Course Description:

United States history is a fascinating story, one filled with mystery and drama. Students in The Mystery of History will take on the persona of sleuth, as they engage in detective work about our nation’s past. Through interrogating eyewitness accounts, examining clues, and searching for evidence, students will develop critical thinking skills (evidence-gathering, analysis, synthesis, evaluation) necessary for a successful student and sleuth. Students will complete this course with an invigorated passion for their nation’s past, with all of its intrigue, conflict, and mystery.
