 Middle School Online Courses

Wisconsin Virtual School’s Middle School Courses provide three paces in which a student may complete the courses. The students are recommended to work with their parent, school, guidance counselor, or local education guide (LEG) to determine the pace that fits their need.

To help determine the pace choice for the course, consider your academic needs and how much time you can devote to the online course.

The three paces and their descriptions are:

Ø       Accelerated Pace means that you will complete a full year course in a semester or approximately two modules per month. This pace is designed for students seeking a Pre-Advanced Placement middle school course, more advanced work in a subject area, or has flexibility in their schedule to accelerate their learning. It is anticipated that you will spend 2-3 hours per day in the course and complete the full course in one semester or 18 weeks.

Ø       Traditional Pace means that you will complete approximately half of the year long course in one semester or approximately one module per month. This is a more common pace for most middle school students working at grade level in a content area. It is anticipated that you will spend 1-1.5 hours per day in the course and complete the full course in two semesters or 36 weeks.

Ø       Extended Pace means that your school, parent, online teacher, guidance counselor, classroom teacher, or local education guide have agreed on a modified course to fit your individual learning needs. The anticipated time spent in the course and amount to be complete is determined by your individual education plan (IEP) or learning path through your school.

Special Notes:

ALL students taking WVS courses have a maximum of 5 months to complete their semester online course for one-half credit.

Students taking middle school courses at a traditional pace will need to enroll and pay tuition for the second semester of the course if they are intending to complete a year of course work for a full credit. They will resume the course where they left off in the first semester.

Students choosing the accelerated pace have five months to complete the full course and would not register and pay for tuition for a second semester.

Students choosing the extended pace with an individual education plan (IEP) or learning path would enroll and pay tuition for each semester they need to access the course.

The cost for Middle School Courses is $325 per semester per course. Courses available:
