The WVS Credit Recovery classes from
Aventa Learning are designed for students who failed
required classes and need to make up credits for
graduation. In these classes, students can test out of
the material they have already learned and focus on what
they need to demonstrate achievement on the essential
content standards.
Because these classes can be taken at
any time, students can begin the learning process before
they fail another class because they did not have that
foundational knowledge. For example, a student could
begin a credit recovery class for first semester as soon
as it becomes clear that they will not pass, even before
the semester has ended.
"No Child Left Behind" legislation
and related state laws make the achievement of every
student important. Schools must meet graduation rate
deadlines, and state tests focus attention on
achievement for all students. In the past, schools had
few resources outside of summer school for students who
failed. Students can also gain the needed learning in
time to perform well on state exams. Online Credit
Recovery courses are a cost effective and flexible way
to get students back in school or keep them in school.
How does it work?
Students begin each unit of their course
by taking formative assessments to determine their areas
of weakness. When their performance on these assessments
indicate they are ready, they can take the summative
assessments and go on to the next learning unit. The
class content is closely keyed to the formative
assessments, so they will only do the work they need to
succeed. The classes are largely self-directed, so
students can work at their own pace, repeating difficult
lessons as needed and skipping those that are not
needed. WVS provides a Wisconsin certified teacher
that will guide the student through the course,
providing help as needed.
What is the cost?
$270 per student per course.
Credit recovery courses do NOT require
textbooks.
