Personal/hobbies:
Norway is the second homeland for my wife, Marilyn and
me. We have lived and worked in Norway several different
years and led tours in Norway. We both speak, read and
write Norwegian fluently. We both enjoy Nordic skiing.
As citizens, we are activists in our Town of Fulton, WI
advocating for the fulfillment of the letter and the
spirit of WI state law vis-à-vis open meetings and
records for open healthy representative government. We
believe that citizens MUST be informed and involved for
the republic - local, state, national - to be healthy.
"Eternal vigilance is the price of liberty," (Wendell
Phillips, 1811-1884) is our motto.
As parents of 2 and the grandparents of 2 we enjoy
weekly meals with the whole family.
Personal statement on online/virtual education:
"The world is flat" thanks to 21st century technology as
Thomas Friedman demonstrates in his outstanding book
"The World Is Flat”. I am convinced that online/virtual
education is a tsunami-like wave improving access,
quality and relevance of education throughout the world.
I am very excited to be part of that improvement!
For me, the most significant challenge of teaching
online has been to develop acquaintance and rapport with
individual students. I believe that interpersonal
communications are key to learning.
For me, the great satisfaction from teaching online has
been awareness that the online course provides the
student with a learning opportunity which s/he would not
otherwise have. It is very significant that
online/virtual education is ENRICHING learning for so
many persons of all ages and in many different
situations.
