Teacher Certification: Latin, History

Educational Background: I have a B.A. in History and a B.A. in Classics from Wayne State University.

Personal Info/Hobbies: I live in Grand Rapids, Michigan with my wife Lisa and our dog Kirby (a Dachshund). As a person who enjoys the seasonal changes of the Midwest, I enjoy spending my time working in the yard in the summer, jogging in the fall, and skiing in the winter months.  I am a member of several organizations including the Classical Association of the Midwest and South, the American Classical League, and the Michigan Academy of Arts & Sciences.

Personal Statement about Online Teaching:  Online teaching and learning has brought the student and teacher together in an academic setting that is focused on meeting the needs and creating opportunities for the 21st century student.  Cyber-generated classrooms facilitate intrinsic motivation and creativity for students with diverse learning styles. Students have the opportunity to interact with each other and their instructor in various ways which enhances the learning atmosphere. Discussion boards, team projects, instant messaging, and desktop conferencing allow students and instructors to communicate clearly, efficiently, and productively.  Furthermore, interactive strategies are built into content programs such as web quests, online tutorials, content related audio components, and virtual filed trips.  This allows the student to learn using a variety of methods suitable to their preferred learning style(s).  These methods and strategies for teaching and learning online, along with the structure and flexibility of an online class, has created opportunities for students seeking a different approach to receiving a high-quality education.
